Denon DP-300F Fully Automatic Turntable Review 2023

As with almost all the producers of turntables today, Denon also gained popularity by originally producing and selling quality surround sound receivers and speakers. Their next step was to create their own turntables.

Fortunately, they made the right decision…

We are going to focus on Denon’s most popular and most expensive record player, the DP-300F, which is their most expensive and most popular record player available today.

The following features are available:

  • It is a belt-drive turntable with two rotational speeds: 33 1/3 and 45 rpm.
  • MM cartridges are included.
  • The dimensions of this product are 15 x 17.1 x 4.8 inches; it weighs 12.1 pounds.
  • A rigid diecast aluminum turntable is used for this purpose.
  • Start-up automatically.
  • There is only one color to choose from black.

Due to the DP-300F’s strong aluminum body, vibrations from the motor are greatly reduced. It is often underestimated by people. The cheaper turntables are mostly made of plastic, so they don’t provide as good sound quality as the more expensive ones. Turntables that are cheaper usually do not have much aluminum in them since it would increase the cost so much that the manufacturer could not profit from the product.

This digital turntable from Denon is completely automatic. This machine is automatic, as the stylus and arm are put on the vinyl and taken off automatically. The turntable will keep your vinyl safe so you can play it. Your vinyl shouldn’t be damaged in any way, do you? Comparatively to its closest competitors, its automatic nature is one of its biggest advantages.

Design is something we should discuss. Although it isn’t anything special, we like it very much. The turntable has a simple modern design. In addition to this product’s excellent build quality and beautiful finish, it’s also reasonably priced. At a price over 300 dollars, you may think it isn’t really a pro, but it is one of the best turntables you can buy.

In addition, we must mention the turntable sheet, which is also quite wonderful. Using hologram vibration analysis, it can hold a record that’s 5 mm thick. Better sound quality will also be achieved with this. An aluminum body, beautiful finish, new technology are the things you pay extra for.

There is no such thing as a perfect turntable. Let us then examine the disadvantages of Denon’s DP-300F.

It’s been written how beautifully the built quality is, how well it’s put together, etc. Within the United States, the only color available for these is black. It is likely that you will have to look for another turntable where there are more color options unless you are a fan of black and this is what you are looking for.

Every time, it’s the needle. When buying a turntable, this is a common problem. It usually comes with a stock stylus. The majority of the time, it isn’t that great. Many people experience initial disappointment with the sound quality when using their new turntable. This is not usually due to the turntable not being good enough, but rather because the needle is not good enough. It is usually sufficient to upgrade the stylus in most cases.

Also here, this is true. DP-300F comes with a decent needle, but we are sure it deserves a much better one, like the Shure M97xE audiophile cartridge. We are confident that you will notice a difference! The turntable deserves a good stylus when you spend this amount of money on it.

There are only two speeds available. Sadly, it does not play 78 rpm records. You may not care about it, it may be a disadvantage to you. It really depends on your preferences. Also plays 7″ and 12″, but not 10″.

We have mentioned several times on this site how difficult it is to find an affordable turntable in the $300 to $400 price range. As alternatives to the DP-300F, here are those you can find for less than 400 dollars: Audio Technica’s AT-LP1240, Rega’s RP1, Teac’s TN-300, and the Project Debut Carbon.

Every one of them plays records well in his or her own way. The AT-LP1240 is the best, as you may already know from reading our other reviews. There is nothing better than that product. Nevertheless, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. If the AT-LP1240 is not to your taste, for example. If you like the Denon DP-300F but are not interested in spending any more money on the cartridge, you may choose that version instead.

The customer reviews, as well as ours, should aid you in choosing the one which is right for you. All of the above-mentioned turntables are solid choices at the end of the day.
