The Teac LP-R550 is a very good, well-built portable recorder that will appeal to those who want the best of both worlds – compact size and portability combined with professional quality sound recording capability. It’s also one of the few recorders on the market today which has a cassette deck as standard equipment. The LP-R550 can be used for home or studio use and comes complete with a remote-control handset.
This review covers the latest version of this model, the LP-R550US.
This is a great little recorder, but it does have some drawbacks. Firstly, there are only two inputs available (one each for microphone and line-level) so you cannot connect more than one instrument at once. Also to this, the input gain controls are quite limited in range. Secondly, although the unit is small enough to fit into your shirt pocket, it is still fairly large and heavy. Thirdly, the battery life is not particularly long. However, if you need a portable recorder then this is certainly worth considering.
